01
The problem I saw
I had growth ideas spread across articles, screenshots, bookmarks, and old notes. Finding one useful example often took longer than evaluating it. A flat list also hid the conditions that made each tactic relevant.
02
What I built
GrowthDex is a public catalogue with 2,042 tactics. A reader can start in the Dex, browse a channel map, open a topic hub, or use the JSON API. Each tactic shows a short explanation, channels, stage, budget tier, company example, source link, and date found. The MENA and Southeast Asia hubs provide narrower routes when geography matters.
03
What I learned
More entries did not solve retrieval on their own. The catalogue became more useful when every item had a source and several clear ways in.
PAIN POINTS
What the product addresses
- Growth knowledge trapped in bookmarks
- Tactics detached from their original context
- Teams choosing channels before understanding behavior
DECISIONS
Decisions that shaped it
- Keep the source link and date beside every tactic.
- Let readers enter through a problem, topic, channel, or market.
- Publish the catalogue as pages and a JSON API.
- Show stage and budget tier so a reader can reject a poor fit quickly.
LEFT OUT
What I deliberately did not build
- A popularity feed that strips tactics of source, context, and retrieval paths.
MEASURES
What I would measure
- Time from opening GrowthDex to viewing a relevant sourced tactic.
- Searches or filters that end without a useful result.
- Source-link opens from an individual tactic.
TRANSFER
Where this may transfer
GrowthDex has dedicated MENA and Southeast Asia topic hubs. Their job is to narrow the research set, not to claim that one regional tactic transfers unchanged.
EVIDENCE AND BOUNDARIES
What this note is based on
- Visible on growth.iangoh.com on 21 July 2026: the homepage states 2,042 tactics and links to the Dex, channel map, topic hubs, playbooks, and JSON API.
- The public API exposes tactic descriptions, channels, stages, budget tiers, source links, and dates found. I did not verify the outcome numbers quoted inside third-party source records.
